EQUESTRIAN INSTRUCTOR
Position Description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Equestrian Instructor provides engaging and safe programming with horses to campers of all experience levels.
The main objective of the horse program is to teach campers to ride and to understand basic horse care.
Equestrian Instructors also provide daily care for horses.
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
Communicate and enforce all equestrian policies and procedures with staff and campers at the horse barn.
Provide age and ability appropriate activities at the horse barn.
Complete participation notes and attendance notes daily for all campers who attend programming at the barn.
Actively participate in camp programming outside of equestrian activities including evening activities, camper choice time, bus duty, and more.
With the Consultant and other Equestrian staff, maintain a herd of 4-6 horses, including maintaining feed, water, grain, supplements, wound care, and knowledge of turnout etc.
Recognize and report to the Assistant Director of Camp Programs & Expeditions, and Facility Manager any program hazards and ensure those hazards are addressed before the program continues.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This position is compensated at a rate of $700 per week, pre-tax.
Our summer seasonal staff are paid on a bi-weekly basis and are classified as exempt, seasonal employees.

Experience teaching others to ride or interact with horses.
Hands-on experience handling horses with a good understanding of their nature and the ability to foresee dangerous situations.
Knowledgeable and comfortable while riding both in the arena and on trail
Belief that with the right support and access to quality programs and experiences, all young people are able to achieve at the highest level imaginable.
REQUIREMENTS & CERTIFICATIONS
Must be able to reside in shared staff housing on the LVC resident camp property in Boscobel, WI starting with two weeks of staff training in June and ending after the last camp program lets out in mid-August.
Must be at least 18 to apply.
Current age-appropriate CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification (PEAK will provide during staff training if needed)
REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS
The Equestrian Instructor reports to the Assistant Director of Camp Programs & Expeditions and receives support and feedback from the Equestrian Consultant.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
The camp environment is often hot or rainy.
You must be able to work outside for sustained periods of time without air conditioning.
Position requires standing, stooping, sitting, walking long distances in hilly terrain, and occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds with or without assistance.
Position requires working weekends and nights, with time off in between camp sessions.
Camp days are often long and at times require late night camper support.
Staff will have daily scheduled breaks.
Ability to react quickly to emergency situations with quick movements or strenuous action, to ensure the safety of horses, staff, and campers.
Work with large, live animals who may exhibit unpredictable behavior or other conditions.
